The Radiography Program combines didactic and clinical education to prepare the graduate for a career as a radiographer. These health care professionals work in various medical settings taking radiographs, assisting physicians during advanced radiographic procedures, determining safe exposure limits and providing appropriate patient care during procedures. As radiology enters the digital era, radiographers also use computers to produce filmless digital images.
Integrated within the program is a didactic and clinical component, which prepares the student to take the Certified Nursing Assistant examination. These additional patient care skills will enhance the graduates potential for employment in community-based settings.
Upon completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Exam to become a registered radiographer. This registry is accepted in any state and many foreign countries. Employment opportunities exist in emergency centers, doctors offices, hospitals and industries. Opportunities exist for all combinations of working hours. The radiographer works closely with physicians and other members of the health care team to assure quality medical care. The program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60606-2901, (312) 704-5300.
The mission of the radiography program it to provide the community with competent and caring entry-level radiographers who are able to perform quality radiographic procedures and function as an integral member of the health-care team. In order to achieve this, the program provides the student with innovative educational opportunities to prepare for a rewarding career in radiologic technology.
In addition to the admission requirements for the College, the following are requirements for admission to the Radiography Program:
Once admitted to the Radiography Program, students will be assigned for one day to observe radiographic procedures with a clinical instructor in one of the area health care facilities prior to starting the program.
Admission priority will be given to those applicants who have completed, at the time of application , the MOST general education courses in the Radiography Program Degree. If there are more students who have completed all of the academic requirements, than there are seats, students will be accepted based on GPA.
