Adjunct Certification Training Program
The Adjunct Certification Training Program at Manatee Community College is intended to prepare adjunct instructors to become successful college instructors by providing adjunct instructors with the tools, skills, and resources to become more effective educators in the classroom. Any adjunct instructor who successfully completes the program will be paid a $200 stipend. In addition, those who complete the certification program and are re-employed at the college the following academic year (Fall and Spring semesters only) and take TWO additional training units during the semesters they are teaching will earn an additional $100 per three (3) hour course taught. (Any workshop that lasts two hours or longer equals one training unit. A workshop that lasts less than two hours equals 1/2 credit.) Attendance at Summer Workshops will count for Fall semester.
Adjuncts will be required to successfully complete the training program over the course of the academic year (note: the entire program will be offered during both the Fall and Spring semesters so that those employed for only one term or the other will be able to complete the program as well).
The six courses required for Adjunct Certification are:
1) Introduction to MCC Services
2) Introduction to Instructional Technology Services
3) Addressing Diversity in the Classroom
4) Designing Effective Classroom Materials
5) Designing Effective Evaluation and Assessment Tools
6) Designing Effective Classroom Management Strategies
NOTE: The on-line course, "Scenarios: Teaching in a Learning College," may be used to substitute for #'s 4, 5, and 6 in the above list. Also, any adjunct faculty member going through the DL Certification program can substitute it for the general Adjunct Certification program.
