Achieving Certification

As part of the Quality Enhancement Plan, MCC committed to the development of a certification program for faculty who teach either web-based or blended courses. Training, workshops, and a pedagogy course have been established to assist eLearning faculty in mastering the competencies to achieve certification. For more information about the current workshop schedule, go to the MCC Faculty Development Website.
An online course is one in which 75% or more of the course is delivered online. Students may be required to come to an onsite meeting for no more than 12 hours in a 3-credit course.
A blended course is one that combines both online and face-to-face activities. The online activities are regularly scheduled and replace seat-time. By definition, no less than 30% and no more than 74% of the course is delivered online. Therefore, a 3-credit blended course could require from 13 to 36 hours of in-class time, with the remainder of the course delivered online.

Achieving eLearning Certification
- eLearning Certification is required for ALL faculty teaching either online or blended courses
- As part of the certification process, faculty must successfully complete the eLearning Pedagogy Module, an 8-week course that is primarily delivered online. Faculty must have the approval of their respective Program Chair to attend the Pedagogy Module.
- All eLearning faculty will demonstrate competency in each of the eLearning Certification Competency Modules. Evaluation of faculty will be conducted by the Director of eLearning or designated individuals that are trained and qualified in a particular module area. All modules will include an assessment of skills. A faculty member may choose to attend training in order to achieve proficiency or may request that the Director of eLearning evaluate current abilities in any module.
- All eLearning faculty must have a faculty web page
Upon completion of the steps above, the eLearning faculty member will receive MCC eLearning Certification.
- Full-time faculty receiving eLearning certification can count this as 3 hours of course credit in the Faculty Promotion system.
- eLearning Certification will count as meeting the criteria for Adjunct Certification for adjunct faculty.
