APRIL 21 – The Lancers defeated Hillsborough CC on the last regularly scheduled game of the season 11-8 in Tampa. Jose Hernandez (3-0) picked up the win with a 51/3 strong relief performance. Max Loveland and Logan Moro hit home runs for the Lancers. Harold Smith, Jonathan Griffin, Bobby Haney, Jonathan Rodriguez and Loveland each had 2 hits on the afternoon. The Lancers next game will be Thursday, April 24 at home when they begin Suncoast Conference tournament play to determine the 2nd team from the conference that will advance to the FCCAA State Tournament May 9-13. The Lancers opponent will be the winner of the Hillsborough CC vs. Pasco-Hernando CC game played on Wednesday in Tampa at 3:00 pm. APRIL 19 – The Lancers could not hold a 10-7 lead in the 6th and lost to Hillsborough CC 18-13. Josh Strawn picked up the loss in relief of Troy Graybill. The Lancers banged out 18 hits with Jonathan Griffin belting his 21st home run of the season in the first inning. Taylor Hashman hit his 18th homer and Jonathan Rodriguez hit his 8th home run. With the loss, the Lancers will finish 2nd in the Suncoast Conferernce and will host a tournament best of three series beginning Thursday against the winner of Hillsborough CC and Pasco CC game on Wednesday. APRIL 18 – Scott Rembisz picked up his 10th win of the season against 1 loss as the Lancers beat Polk CC in Winter Haven tonight. Jonathan Griffin hit his 20th home run of the season and Bobby Haney, Max Loveland and Logan Moro chipped in two hits each to pace the Lancers. APRIL 16 – The Lancers teamed up with Reebok and the Tampa Bay Rays to sponsor Little League night at Robert C. Wynn Field. The Little Leaguers were on the field for pre-game hitting, running and throwing activities followed by standing with their favorite players at their position for the National Anthem. Reebok bats, fielding gloves, batting gloves, bat bags and other prizes were given throughout the game. The Tampa Bay Rays brought their Hummer & Street Team and treated the Little Leaguers and fans with Rays T-Shirts and other giveaways. A great time was had by all including a Lancer victory to raise their season’s record to 33-13 and 15-7 in the Suncoast Conference. Dustin Leonard started the game and pitched six strong innings leaving with a 6-4 lead. Sloppy defense led to a 6 run Polk uprising in the 7th to take an 8-6 lead. The Lancers answered in the bottom of the 7th with a Bobby Haney walk, a double by Jonathan Rodriguez and a bunt single by Max Loveland that scored Rodriguez after an errant throw by the Polk third baseman to tie the game at 8-8. Polk answered in the 8th with another unearned run as the Lancers committed 7 errors on the evening, 5 in the last 3 innings. The offense continued to take center stage producing 2 more runs in the 8th to hold on to a 10-9 victory. Jonathan Griffin led off the 8th with a single and was sacrificed to 2nd by Haney. Rodriguez singled to move Griffin to 3rd who scored on Loveland’s sacrifice fly to right. Gus Schlosser who had 5 hits on the evening collected his game winning rbi single to score Rodriguez. The Lancers travel to Winter Haven Friday to take on Polk CC for the final game of the season series with the Vikings. Scott Rembisz (9-1 on the season) will start for the Lancers. APRIL 14 –Nick Debacker picked up his 4th win of the season as he went six innings allowing 3 runs on 9 hits with 4 strikeouts. Justin Zinkovich pitched a scoreless 7th in a 13–3 Lancer win called after 7 innings due to the conference 10 run rule. Taylor Hashman led the offense with 3 hits and 2 rbi’s. Hunter Wessells upped his state stolen base lead to 37 with 2 stolen bases. Wessells, Bobby Haney, Jonathan Rodriguez, Max Loveland and Gus Schlosser all chipped in 2 hits each. Schlosser drove in 4 runs and Rodriguez hit a double for the Lancers only extra base hit. APRIL 12 – Scott Rembisz pitched a nine inning complete game 9-2 win over Lake Sumter CC in Leesburg. Scott struck out 13 with no walks, allowing only 6 hits and 1 earned run. He now leads the state and nation with 101 strike outs and is 9-1 on the season. Jonathan Griffin hit his 19th home run to set a new Lancer single season home run record. Kevin Clark (2006) now playing minor league baseball with the Colorado Rockies held the previous mark at 18. Hunter Wessells and Harold Smith each had 3 hits. Smith had 3 stolen bases and Wessells upped his state stolen base lead to 35 with a stolen base in the first inning. APRIL 11 – St. Petersburg College defeated the Lancers 6-5 with a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning. The Lancers were trailing 5-2 when they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to send the game into extra innings. Max Loveland drove in Bobby Haney who had doubled to make it 5-3. Gus Schlosser walked and Brett Holte was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Hunter Wessells singled up the middle to score Loveland and Juan Santini who had pinch run for Schlosser. Troy Graybill started the game giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. Josh Strawn pitched the remaining 5 innings allowing only 3 hits.
APRIL 9 – MCC traveled to Clearwater and lost to St. Petersburg College 18-1. Taylor Hashman had 2 hits for the Lancers including a first inning home run. Justin Zinkovich was the losing pitcher as the Lancers fell 2 games behind conference leading St. Pete with 7 conference games remaining in the season. APRIL 7 – The Lancers defeated Pasco Hernando CC 10-3 behind a strong pitching performance by Dustin Leonard. Leonard threw 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) while striking out 5. Logan Moro had 2 hits including a 3 run home run while Harold Smith and Taylor Hashman each recorded 3 hits. Smith had an RBI triple and Hashman drove in 3 runs. Hunter Wessells, Bobby Haney, and Gus Schlosser each added 2 hits as well. MCC improved to 30-11 overall and 12-5 in Suncoast Conference play. APRIL 5 – MCC traveled to New Port Richey and defeated Pasco Hernando CC 17-15 in 11 innings. The Lancers led for most of the game only to see PHCC take the lead in the bottom of the 7th. The Lancers tied the game at 14 in the 8th inning and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning only to see Pasco tie the score at 15 in the bottom of the 10th. Jonathan Griffin hit a bases loaded single in the top of the 11th to drive in two runs that was the difference in the game. Griffin had 3 hits and 3 rbi’s including his 18th home run of the season which tied former Lancer Kevin Clark for the most home runs in school history. Taylor Hashman also homered (his 16 th of the season) and Harold Smith added a 3 run home run (his 6th of the season). Hunter Wessells had 5 hits and 2 stolen bases. Hashman, Jonathan Rodriguez, and Max Loveland each had 4 hits as the Lancers pounded out 29 hits for the game. Josh Strawn was the winning pitcher to improve his record to 5-3. APRIL 4 – MCC traveled to Winter Haven and defeated Polk Community College 15-5. Nick Debacker was the winning pitcher as he threw 5 strong innings allowing only one earned run. Taylor Hashman and Jonathan Griffin each homered for the Lancers while Hunter Wessells (3-3 with a stolen base), Harold Smith (2 hits including a triple), Max Loveland (2 hits), and Gus Schlosser (2 doubles and three rbi’s) each added to the offensive attack APRIL 2 – The Lancers traveled to Clearwater and lost a tough game to St.Pete College 5-4. St. Pete scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 9 th inning to earn the win. Josh Strawn was the hard luck loser to fall to 4-3 on the year. Lancer starting pitcher Troy Graybill threw 6 strong innings as he gave up 4 runs (2 earned). Jonathan Griffin hit his team leading 16 th home run and had 2 hits and 2 rbi’s. Harold Smith hit a game-tying single with 2 outs in the top of the 9 th and Bobby Haney, Brett Holte, and Hunter Wessells added 2 hits each. MCC falls to 9-5 in the Suncoast Conference trailing St. Pete (10-4) by one game. MARCH 31 – The Lancers defeated Hillsborough Community College at Wynn field 8-7 in another wild finish. The Lancers trailed for most of the game and were down 6-1 in the 7th inning when the offense came alive and scored 3 runs to cut the score to 6-4. The Hawks scored a run in the top of the 8th to increase their lead to 7-4. In the bottom of the 8th, the Lancers scored 4 runs as Derek Luciano, Bobby Haney, and Jonathan Rodriguez had base hits. Gus Schlosser hit a home run in the 2nd inning and was 2-4. Hunter Wessells, Max Loveland, Jonathan Rodriguez, and Derek Luciano each added 2 hits. Nick Debacker picked up the win throwing a scoreless 9 th inning. MARCH 29 – The Lancers lost in Tampa to Hillsborough Community College 14-10. The Lancers trailed 14-3 after 6 innings but scored 7 unanswered runs in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to come up short. Gus Schlosser came off the bench to record 3 hits with 3 rbi’s while Jonathan Griffin, Taylor Hashman, and Derek Luciano each went 2-4. Justin Zinkovich was the losing pitcher as the Lancers dropped to 8-4 in Suncoast Conference play and 26-10 overall. MARCH 28 – MCC defeated Hillsborough Community College 16-15 at Robert C. Wynn field in a wild game. HCC scored 7 runs in the first two innings but the Lancers responded with 9 runs in the first two innings highlighted by Jonathan Rodriguez’ 3 run home run off the scoreboard in right field and Jonathan Griffin’s grand slam to straightaway centerfield. MCC eventually took a 14-9 lead into the 9th inning only to see the Hawks score 6 runs to take a 15-14 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, the Lancers scored two runs for the 16-15 win. Taylor Hashman led off the 9th with a walk and advanced to 3rd base on an error by the pitcher on a pick off attempt. Bobby Haney drove in Hashman with a sacrifice fly to deep right centerfield. Jonathan Rodriguez singled and Juan Santini singled up the middle, scoring Rodriguez as an errant throw by the HCC centerfielder to 3rd base allowed Rodriguez to score the winning run. The Lancers pounded out 18 hits as Max Loveland (3 hits), Jonathan Griffin (2 hits), Taylor Hashman (3 hits), Jonathan Rodriguez (3 hits), and Brett Holte (2 hits) each had multiple hits. Max Loveland was the winning pitcher to improve to 2-0. MARCH 27 – The Lancers defeated Broome (NY) 11-0 in a game that was shortened to 7 innings because of the 10 run rule. Gus Schlosser was the winning pitcher as he threw a scoreless 5 th inning. Hunter Wessells and Bobby Haney each hit an inside-the-park home run. Haney had three hits and Taylor Hashman added 3 hits. Nate Davis and Shaun Golus each added a double. MCC improves to 25-9 overall as they return to conference action on Friday, March 28, hosting Hillsborough Community College at 6pm. MARCH 26 – MCC traveled to Winter Haven and defeated Polk Community College 10-7. Josh Strawn relieved starting pitcher Jose Hernandez in the 5 th inning and picked up the win to improve to 4-2. Taylor Hashman had a big game for the Lancers, hitting a grand slam in the 3 rd inning and finishing the night 3-5 with a double and 6 rbi’s. Hashman’s grand slam was his 14 th home run of the season. Max Loveland and Logan Moro each added two hits while Bobby Haney added a double. The Lancers improved to 24-9 overall and 7-3 in the Suncoast Conference. MARCH 24 – MCC defeated Polk Community College 4-0 at Robert C. Wynn Field as pitcher Scott Rembisz threw a complete game. Rembisz allowed only 3 singles (2 in the 1st and one in the 9 th) as he improved his record to 8-1. Max Loveland hit an RBI double in the 5 th inning for the Lancers first run and Taylor Hashman had an RBI single in the 6 th inning. Johnny Griffin hit is 14 th home run in the 8 th inning, a 2 run shot, to finish out the scoring. Hunter Wessells had 2 hits and Nate Davis added a triple. With the win, MCC head coach Tim Hill became the all-time winningest coach in Florida junior college baseball history. The win was #1037, surpassing the previous record held by retired Indian River Community College Head Coach Mike Easom. MARCH 22 – Today’s game in Winter Haven versus Polk Community College was rained out after 3 complete innings with the scored tied at 7. The game will be replayed on Thursday, April 3 rd at 6pm in Winter Haven. MARCH 21 – The Lancers traveled to Leesburg and defeated Lake Sumter Community College 15-12. After trailing 7-1, the Lancer bats came alive scoring 14 runs in the final 3 innings. Taylor Hashman hit his 13 th home run of the season and Harold Smith and Nate Davis each homered. Max Loveland was the winning pitcher as he threw the last 2.3 innings. MARCH 19 - The Lancers defeated Lake Sumter CC tonight at Bob Wynn Field 11-6 increasing their season record to 21-9 and 4-3 in the Suncoast Conference. Scott Rembisz picked up his 7th win of the season going 7 innings, scattering 10 hits and striking out 10. Gus Schlosser and Josh Strawn pitched the 8th and 9th inning respectively. Taylor Hashman hit his 12th home run of the season and Bobby Haney had a 3 run homer in the 1st inning. Jonathan Griffin, Nate Davis and Hashman each had 2 hits. MARCH 17 - The Lancers visited Lake Sumter CC on St. Patrick’s Day and came away with a 21-4 victory. Justin Zinkovich (4-1) earned the win with the Lancers first complete game performance. Taylor Hashman had 4 hits including a double. Harold Smith hit his 4th homer of the season and picked up 3 hits and 3 rbi’s. Jonathan Griffin hit his team leading 13th home run of the season. Hunter Wessels had 2 hits and upped his state and national stolen base lead with 3 stolen bases. Bobby Haney had 2 doubles and Jonathan Rodriguez, Max Loveland and Logan Moro chipped in 2 hits a piece. MARCH 15 - The Lancers returned home Saturday afternoon and took a pounding from St. Petersburg College 23-5. St. Petersburg hit 9 home runs from 8 different hitters as the Lancers used 6 pitchers. Harold Smith had 3 hits, including a 1st inning triple and Jonathan Griffin had 2 hits on the afternoon. MARCH 14 - Tonight's game in Clearwater versus St. Petersburg College has been rained out. Make-up date will be Wednesday, April 2nd. MARCH 12 - MCC traveled to Clearwater and defeated St. Petersburg College 15-7 to improve to 19-8 and 2-2 in Suncoast Conference play. Josh Strawn was the winning pitcher as the Lancers recorded 20 hits. Johnny Griffin hit a 2 run homer (his 12th of the season) and Taylor Hashman hit his 11th home run. Hashman reached base safely in all 6 plate appearances as he was 4-4 with 2 walks. Max Loveland added 4 hits while Harold Smith, Griffin, Jonathan Rodriguez, and Garrett Gregory each had 2 hits. MARCH 11 - MCC defeated Eckerd College JV 35-4 at Robert C. Wynn field in a game that was shortened to 7 innings. Two school records were set that included most runs in a game (old record of 29 set in 1999) and most home runs in a game as the Lancers hit 10 homers (old record of 6 set in 1981). Johnny Griffin hit his 10th and 11th home runs of the season and Taylor Hashman hit his 9th and 10th home runs. Hunter Wessells, Jonathan Rodriguez, Logan Moro, Max Loveland, Juan Santini, and Gus Schlosser each added a home run. Dustin Leonard was the winning pitcher. MARCH 10 - The Lancers won their first conference game of the young season 8-2 over Pasco Hernando CC at Robert C. Wynn field to improve their overall record to 17-8 (1-2 in the Suncoast Conference). Justin Zinkovich pitched 6 strong innings for the win and Josh Strawn threw 3 effective innings in relief. Taylor Hashman hit his 8th home run of the season. Max Loveland had three hits including 2 triples and a steal of home to spark the Lancer offense. Shortstop Bobby Haney's hitting streak ended at 23 games tonight. MARCH 8 - MCC traveled to Pasco-Hernando CC and lost 14-2. Nick Debacker (1-2) was the losing pitcher as the Lancers dropped their second consecutive conference game to the Conquistadors. Johnny Griffin and Taylor Hashman each had 2 hits for the Lancers. MARCH 7 - The Lancers lost their Suncoast Conference opener to Pasco-Hernando CC 10-4 in a game that was stopped after 7 innings due to lightning. Scott Rembisz (6-1) took the loss as PHCC hit four solo home runs. Johnny Griffin hit a 3 run homer for the Lancers. MARCH 6 - Taylor Hashman led the Lancers to a 15-5 victory over Tampa JV belting his 7th home run of the season and adding a double. Bobby Haney extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 21 games with a double and a single. Hunter Wessells had a double to go along with his game high 3 hits. Wessells also extended his state and national lead in stolen bases to 23. Harold Smith had 2 hits and a stolen base. Jonathan Rodriguez contributed a single and a double as the Lancers banged out 19 hits. Justin Zinkovich picked up his 2nd win of the season.MARCH 4 – Eckerd College JV at Manatee CC was cancelled due to the weather. The game will not be rescheduled. The University of Tampa JV team visits the Lancers Thursday March 6 at 7:00pm. MARCH 1 – The Lancers traveled to Lake City CC and lost in 12 innings 7-6. Bobby Haney extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 20 games with two hits. Shaun Golus had 2 hits for the Lancers including a double. Jonathan Griffin and Harold Smith hit solo home runs in the 8th to tie the game at 6-6. The Lancers had runners in scoring position with 1 out in the 9th but did not score or threaten the last 3 innings. After 2 outs in the bottom of the 12th , Lake City doubled and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch then scored the winning run on 2 strike slap single. Nick Debacker started on the mound for the Lancers allowing 4 runs in the 2nd while striking out 5 and allowing 7 hits over 5 innings. Josh Strawn relieved Debacker in the 6th and pitched 51/3 innings with 5 strikeouts and 2 runs. Justin Zinkovich took the loss in relief of Strawn FEBRUARY 29 – Lake City Timberwolves visited Robert C. Wynn Field on Friday afternoon and lost 8-4. Scott Rembisz upped his record to 6-0 as he pitched 7 strong innings with 9 strikeouts. Bobby Haney started the scoring with a home run over the rightfield fence in the 1st inning. The Lancers never trailed in the game as they scored 5 runs in the 6th on 5 hits with a triple by Haney. Harold Smith had 2 hits including a triple and scored 2 runs. Taylor Hashman had 2 hits as did Haney. Troy Graybill and Mike Mullen pitched the last 2 innings FEBRUARY 27 – The Pittsburgh Pirates hosted the Lancers Thursday afternoon at their Bradenton spring training home, McKechnie Field in front of 2102 people. The Lancers committed two errors and allowed 4 hits in the bottom of the 1st as the Pirates scored 4 runs, 2 of which were earned. The Pirates scored another unearned run in the 5th to complete the scoring and a 5-0 victory. Doug Mientkiewics and Steve Pearce had 2 hits each for the Pirates and Ryan Doumit had 2 rbi’s. Nick Debacker, Josh Strawn, Jose Hernandez and Gus Schlosser all pitched scoreless innings for the Lancers. Bobby Haney and Garrett Gregory each hit doubles for the Lancers. FEBRUARY 26 – MCC defeated Eckerd JV 24-6 in St. Petersburg last night. The Lancers broke a school single game hit record pounding out 31 hits including 5 home runs to break the old mark set by the 1999 JUCO World Series team of 26 hits against Tampa JV. Taylor Hashman slammed 3 homers in 5 at bats driving home 5 runs. Shaun Golus hit a double and a homer. Jonathan Rodriguez ht the other home run while totaling 5 hits with a double. Harold Smith had 2 triples to go along with his 3 hits and 5 rbi’s. Hunter Wessells banged out 5 hits and Bobby Haney had 6 hits with 2 doubles. Nate Davis and Max Loveland contributed 2 hits each. Jonathan Griffin started on the mound and was followed by Johnny Lingo who picked up his 2nd win of the season, Dustin Leonard and Mike Mullin. FEBRUARY 24 – It took 13 innings on a sunny 80 degree Sunday afternoon at Bob Wynn Field for the Lancers to pull out an 8-7 win over Broward Community College to boost their season record to 13-5. Centerfielder Harold Smith had a big day for the Lancers scoring 3 runs and going 4-5 with a double and 2 stolen bases. Smith drew a 1 out walk in the bottom of the 13th and promptly stole second and third base, then scored on an errant throw by the Seahawks catcher. Second baseman, Max Loveland was 3 for 5 on the day with an RBI. Bobby Haney had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Hunter Wessells had 3 hits and had 2 stolen bases to extend his state and national lead to 22 steals. Justin Zinkovich started for the Lancers and after a rocky 2nd inning when Broward jumped out to a 4-0 lead, settled down finishing 6 innings with 8 strikeouts. Josh Strawn pitched the last 6 innings allowing only 2 hits and no runs to pick up his 2nd win of the season.
FEBRUARY 23 – The Lancers were cruising along for 7 strong innings as starting pitcher Nick Debacker allowed only 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. FCCJ erupted for 9 runs after 2 outs and nobody on base in the 8th to take an 11-3 lead. The Lancers responded with 6 runs the next two innings but left the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the 9th to lose 11-9. Johnny Griffin increased his team leading 7 home runs by slugging 2 homers while driving in 4 runs. Bobby Haney had 2 hits including a double for the Lancers only other extra base hit.
FEBRUARY 22 – The Lancers exploded for 15 runs in the last 3 innings for a 19-7 victory over the visiting Florida CC-Jacksonville Stars Friday night. Scott Rembisz picked up his 5th win of the season with no losses as he went 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. Jonathan Griffin had 7 rbi’s with a home run. Bobby Haney had 3 hits including 2 doubles and Hunter Wessells had 2 hits including a home run and 3 stolen bases. Max Loveland had 2 hits and Harold Smith had 2 hits including a home run. FEBRUARY 20 – The Lancers lost today at Seminole CC in Sanford 11-2. Reliever Dustin Leonard was the losing pitcher as Seminole had 13 hits off 6 MCC pitchers. Jonathan Griffin had 2 hits for the Lancers and Juan Santini added a double. Bobby Haney extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single in the third inning. FEBRUARY 19 – MCC defeated South Florida CC as pitchers Jose Hernandez and Josh Strawn shut out the Panthers 4-0. Jonathan Rodriguez and Derek Luciano hit back to back 2 out RBI singles in the 5th inning to break a scoreless game. Bobby Haney had three hits for the Lancers and Derek Luciano added two hits.FEBRUARY 17 – MCC defeated Tallahassee 9-4 sweeping the three game series. Lancer starting pitcher Justin Zinkovich threw 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on six hits while striking out 7. Gus Schlosser threw the final three innings earning the save. Catcher Logan Moro and outfielder Taylor Hashman each hit home runs. Hashman had three hits and four RBI’s and Harold Smith added two hits. FEBRUARY 16 – MCC took the second game of the series with Tallahassee winning 5-2. Lancer starting pitcher Nick Debacker threw 8 shutout innings allowing 5 hits. Jonathan Rodriguez hit a two run home run to centerfield and had three hits and three RBI’s. Bobby Haney and Taylor Hashman each had two hits as the Lancers improved their season record to 9-3. FEBRUARY 15 – The Lancers traveled to Tallahassee to begin a three game series with Tallahassee Community College winning the opener 7-3. MCC starting pitcher Scott Rembisz improved his record to 4-0 throwing 8 shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out 10. Josh Strawn recorded a save as TCC mounted a 9th inning rally scoring three runs. Jonathan Griffin hit two home runs for the Lancers while Bobby Haney and Jonathan Rodriguez added two hits each. FEBRUARY 14 – The Lancers defeated Eckerd College JV 12-0 in St. Petersburg. Gus Schlosser was the winning pitcher as he struck out 3 in two innings of relief. Starting pitcher Jonathan Griffin threw one inning striking out 2. Five MCC pitchers limited Eckerd to two hits while striking out 14. Jonathan Rodriguez hit a three run home run to lead the offensive attack. Rodriguez, Bobby Haney and Jonathan Griffin each had two hits. FEBRUARY 12 – Tonight’s game with the University of Tampa JV team was rained out. The game will be rescheduled in March. The date will be announced soon. FEBRUARY 11 – The Lancers lost to the University of Tampa JV Spartan team last night in Tampa 3-0. Eight of the nine Spartan hitters in the lineup were dropped down from the varsity as well as every Spartan pitcher in a game that did not feature much offense as the Lancers were out hit 4 to 2. Tampa catcher Garrett Maines hit a three run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning off starting pitcher Josh Strawn after walks to Casey Albanese (a former Lancer) and Jared Simon. Hunter Wessells and Bobby Haney accounted for the two Lancer hits. Tampa starting pitcher Josh Bowman threw 5 strong innings giving up one hit and striking out 6 Lancers. FEBRUARY 10 - The Lancers hit 3 home runs to defeat Indian River CC at Wynn Field Sunday afternoon. Jonathan Griffin hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd inning to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Indian River scored 2 in the 3rd off starter Justin Zinkovich. Jonathan Rodriguez hit a 3 run homer to right field followed by Bobby Haney's solo homer to right in the 5th. Jose Hernandez picked up the win pitching 4 innings in relief and Mike Mullen closed out the ninth in order. FEBRUARY 9 - The Lancers picked up a big road win defeating Broward CC in Ft. Lauderdale 8-4. Scott Rembisz (3-0) picked up the win going 6 innings giving up 5 hits, striking out 9 and allowing 2 earned runs. Josh Strawn earned a save with 2 strong innings in relief. Taylor Hashman had a double and a 2 run homer and Max Loveland chipped in 2 hits to lead the offense. FEBRUARY 8 - Not a good day for the Lancers. Lake City scored big with 3 runs in the 4th, 4 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th to defeat the Lancers 12-4 Friday afternoon at MCC. Nick Debacker took the loss for the Lancers. Shaun Golus had two doubles and 3 hits to lead the offense. Bobby Haney hit a triple with 2 hits and Hunter Wessells and Taylor Hashman also contributed 2 hits a piece. FEBRUARY 6 - The Lancers defeated Seminole Community College 13-7. The Lancers pounded out 18 hits with Hunter Wessells, Taylor Hashman, and Johnny Griffin each with three hits on the night. Every Lancer in the lineup had at least one hit and catcher Brett Holte hit a three run home run. Nick Debacker pitched a scoreless 4th inning followed by Scot Rembisz who pitched two shut out innings striking out four Seminole hitters. FEBRUARY 5 - The Lancers squeaked by Tampa Spartans JV 8-7 last night at Bob Wynn Field. Jose Hernandez started on the mound and left with a 5-1 lead after 5 innings. Jose allowed Allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 5 . The Spartans erupted for 5 runs in the 7th off Dustin Leonard to take a 6-5 lead. The Lancers responded in the bottom of the 7th with a 3 run homer by Jonathan Griffin. Johnny Lingo was credited with the win in relief of Leonard and Mike Mullen picked up his 2nd save of the season with a scoreless 9th . Jonathan Griffin led the Lancers with a home run, double and single in 4 at bats, while Shaun Golus and Bobby Haney each had a double. FEBRUARY 2 - Centerfielder Harold Smith's 3rd inning grand slam highlighted an 8 run inning as the Lancers defeated Lake City 13-10. MCC jumped out to a 13-2 lead only to see Lake City score 2 runs in the 7th and 6 runs in the 8th. Scott Rembisz picked up the win to improve his season record to 2-0. He threw 5.2 effective innings giving up one earned run on three hits. Max Loveland had 4 hits while Hunter Wessells, Bobby Haney, and Taylor Hashman each had 2 hits. FEBRUARY 1 - The Lancers lost their first game of the season in their home opener to Palm Beach 5 to 3. MCC committed 5 costly errors that led to 4 unearned runs. Josh Strawn took the loss in relief as Palm Beach broke a 3-3 tie with 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning. Logan Moro, Max Loveland, and Bobby Haney each had 2 hits for the Lancers. JANUARY 27- Today's game at Indian River CC was cancelled due to wet grounds. The game will not be rescheduled. Next game will be home, Friday, February 1 against Palm Beach CC. JANUARY 26- The Lancers opened their 2008 season at Palm Beach CC with an 8-1 victory. Scott Rembisz pitched 6 solid innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 6. Nick Debacker pitched the remaining 3 innings retiring Palm Beach hitters in order with 4 strikeouts. The Lancers defense played flawless in the field. Derek Luciano ignited the Lancers offense with a 2 out double in the first that scored Bobby Haney who had walked and Max Loveland who had singled. Taylor Hashman led the Lancers offense with a solo home run in the fifth followed by a 2 out, 2 RBI double in the 8th. Max Loveland had 2 hits with an RBI. Brett Holte added 2 hits with a double and Hunter Wessells was credited with 3 stolen bases. JANUARY 19- The Lancers 2008 spring baseball season began this afternoon with an exhibition game against the Alumni baseball players. The Alumni defeated the current Lancers 15-13 highlighted by 3 towering home runs by former Major Leaguer Robin Jennings (1991) who also singled and ended the afternoon with 7 RBI's. Current minor league players Larry Cobb (2005) had 2 home runs and Brian Peacock (2005) added a solo home run to center field. Last evenings Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Nick Cafaro assumed his usual role on the diamond as the Alumni starting pitcher. Jody Reed, also inducted last night into the Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame, had 4 hits in the game. For the 2008 Lancers, Taylor Hashman and Max Loveland hit home runs and Shaun Golus had 3 hits including a double. Bobby Haney and Hunter Wessells had two hits each. Five Major League Lancers were in the Alumni dugout; Jody Reed (1982), 11 year Major League veteran and current minor league manager with the Yankees, Rich Sauveur (1983), current triple A pitching coach with the Red Sox, Robin Jennings (1991), currently Vice-President of Bigger, Faster, Stronger baseball division, Lance Carter (1994), former 2003 American League All- Star game pitcher and currently with the Blue Jays, and David Moates (1968). Current and former minor league Lancers for the Alumni included Larry Cobb (2005), James Curtis (2006), Brian Peacock (2005), Jeremy Schmidt (2004), Al Corbeil (1991), James Morrison (2001), Freddy Caperton (2001), Josh Renick (1999), Ryan Kennedy (2005), Jason Bartz (2000), and Kyle Levengood (2000). Several Alumni traveled from out-of-state to take part in the week-end affair. John O'Connor (1972) made his annual trek from Virginia. Caperton also came in from Virginia. Tony Schneidt (1980) traveled from Ohio and Jennings flew in from Utah. Rounding out the Alumni roster included local players, Nathan Kragt (2001) Ellenton, Chris Quarles (1998) Orlando, Jason Schmidt (1997) Sarasota, David Shipps (2000) Venice, Nick Karamitsos (2000) Venice, Steve Floyd (1979) Lakewood Ranch and Tim Hill II (1990) Bradenton. Five players included former or current Lancer Assistant Baseball Coaches: Shipps, Schmidt, Morrison and current assistant coaches, Tim Hill II and Al Corbeil. The Alumni were managed by Bob "Skip" Wynn and the '08 Lancers were managed by Tim Hill, Sr. and assistant coach Barry Batson. JANUARY 18- The Lancers hosted their annual alumni/baseball golf tournament today at Waterlefe Golf & River Club. Winning foursome included Jason Bartz (class of 2000), Nathan Kragt (2001), Kyle Levengood (2000) and team captain, Brian Newberry (1991) current Lancer Athletic Equipment Manager. Following the golf tournament, the 2nd Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony was held in the dining area of Waterlefe Golf & River Club. Mike Riley, Lancer Athletic Director, provided introductions and Dr. Donald Bowman, MCC Vice-President for Student Services and Development gave an overview of the Lancer Athletic Tradition. Bill Martin, morning host of the local JOY FM 88.1 radio station emceed the Hall of Fame affair. The 2008 baseball alumni inductees included Nick Cafaro (1964) and Jody Reed (1982). Nick pitched on the 1963 JUCO World Series runner-up Lancer team and graduated from Florida State University.
