(April 16, 2008) - Last week, Dr. Lars Hafner accepted the Manatee Community College (MCC) District Board of Trustees’ offer to become the fifth president of MCC. Read the news release dated April 10 announcing the board's selection of Hafner.
Today, the agreement was formalized following a special board meeting at MCC Lakewood Ranch. Hafner and Steve Harner, board chair, signed a two-year contract that will take effect July 1 amidst applause of MCC trustees, administrators, faculty and staff, and Hafner’s wife, Jacquie, and their daughters, Lexi and Lilly.
Sarah Pappas, who is retiring June 30 after 11 years as MCC’s fourth president, presented Hafner with a Lancer cap and shirt in blue and gold, the College’s colors.
Hafner said that he is eager to move his family to the Manatee-Sarasota area and become a part of the community.
“When I came for the public meetings and interview, I could sense the family atmosphere and feel the energy and excitement about where we could go, working together,” Hafner said, adding, “I appreciate the legacy of Dr. Pappas and can think of no finer tribute than to continue moving MCC forward through collaborative leadership.”
Hafner currently is the provost of St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, Fla., where he has worked in various positions for 22 years. |
