Reading & Writing LabDescriptionThe Reading and Writing Labs at MCC provide support for students enrolled in REA 0001, REA 0002, ENC 0010, ENC 0080L, ENC 00901, ENC 00902, and ENC 00903. Lab attendance is mandatory for students enrolled in these courses. The Reading and Writing Labs do not offer prescriptive services; however, prescription services are available to students in credit English courses who are referred by their instructors. These services are offered through the open learning lab in the Academic Resource Building. Schedule and LocationThe Reading and Writing Labs are open Monday through Friday. Monday through Thursday scheduled labs generally run from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Students who required additional help should contact their instructor. Since the actual schedules vary by semester, check the schedule posted on each lab door for details. The Reading and Writing Labs, located in building 5-124 and 5-125, are equipped with MS Word, Internet access, and a variety of specialized reading and writing computer programs to help students improve their grammar and sentence skills, as well as, reading and comprehension levels. Reading texts are available in the Reading Lab and are an integral part of the lab curriculum.
RegistrationStudents enrolled in REA 0001, Basic Reading I register for a section of REA 0001L; REA 0002, Basic Reading II register for a section of REA 0002L. Students enrolled in ENC 0010, College Prep Writing I register for a section of ENC 0010L. ENC 0080L and the CLAST review courses, ENC 00901, ENC 00902, and ENC 00903, are lab-based courses and are restricted to student with a remediation referral.
In some cases, students may be required to register for a specific section of the lab. If this is the case, detailed information will be available via web registration and the printed course schedule.
