Class Reserves

Instructors often place supplemental class material on Reserve. These materials are located at the Circulation Desk. Reserves are for library use only. You must have your current MCC ID to access Reserve material. Having overdue library materials will limit your ability to access Reserve material.

Disabled Services

There is a group study room, VCR and computer workstation with scanner and audio capabilities reserved for disabled students. In addition there is an ADA friendly microform reader. Please ask for any assistance you may require.

Food & Drinks

Food and open drinks are not permitted in the library. Beverages in closed containers are permitted, except near computers. Please place any bottles or cups away from library materials.

Intra/Inter-Library Loan

Intra/Inter-Library Loan is the service of providing books and/or articles from other libraries. Intra-Library Loan involves borrowing books between the two MCC campuses. Inter-Library Loan is the borrowing of books and/or articles from other libraries in the state and nation.

Intra-Library Loan

It is possible to borrow books, videos and journals between the two campus libraries. There is a courier that travels between the Bradenton and Venice Campus Libraries on a daily basis. You may place requests for items electronically through LINCC, or ask a library staff member for assistance. You will need to know the title and call number of the item and have your student id. You must also provide a means of contacting you, either e-mail or phone number. It usually takes 24-48 hours to supply your request.

Inter-Library Loan

Inter-Library Loan is a service in which MCC borrows, on a student's behalf, books or journal articles from another library. It is best to work with a librarian when making an Inter-Library Loan request. You may request items electronically through LINCC or FirstSearch. There is also a form available at the Circulation Desk. Always provide as much information as possible to speed the lending process; you should also ask a librarian to approve any written request. It usually takes 10 business days or more to supply your request.

This service can take up to 2 weeks, depending upon the type of materials, and the lending policies of the remote library. Usually there is no cost, however, some lending libraries charge for shipping or photocopy costs. Generally reference books and videos are not loaned out.

If you have any questions, contact ILL Clerk, Carolyn Zaput, at 752-5657 or zaputc@mccfl.edu.

Library Cards

Your MCC ID is your library card. Only currently enrolled students may borrow books or access databases. To access library databases you will need to enter your Student ID number beginning with a capital G. Remember to use Zeros and not the letter "O".

Lost & Damaged Items

The library charges for lost or damaged materials. If a book is returned in damaged condition, a hold will be placed upon your account and access to online databases and other library privileges will be denied until payment is made. A $3 processing fee is added to the cost of the book for the total charge.

Music CD's

CDs are listed in the library collection as music recordings. Three CDs may be checked-out for 3 weeks. CDs may also be used with the CD players located at each campus library. The Venice library does have a phonograph collection available for use in the library.

Photocopiers & Printers

Photocopiers and printers are available in both libraries. The cost is .10 cents per page. Copiers and printers use copy cards only. Copy cards are available for purchase ($1.00) in the library. After purchasing a card you must add value to the card. Cards are used for both copiers and printers located in the library and elsewhere on campus.

Reciprocal Borrowing

The MCC Library is part of a reciprocal borrowing agreement with all Florida community colleges and all Florida Public Universities. Any currently enrolled student in good standing (no overdue materials) may borrow books from these participating schools.

  • You must take your student id and a picture id to the remote library.
  • Private colleges and universities are not part of this agreement.
  • Books must be returned to the lending (remote) library, not the home library.
  • Overdues from any institution will affect your borrowing privileges.

Renewals & Overdues

You may check out as many as 10 library books for a 3 week time period. The last due date of a semester is the last full day of classes before final exams. Books may be renewed once, for 3 weeks. Renew books online with MyAccount, over the phone, or in person.

MCC does not charge for overdue materials. However, a hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to check out items or access online databases until your library obligation is cleared. This hold may also block your registration and/or grades.

Videos

Most videos are for library use only. You must have your MCC ID to view videos in the library. There are a limited number of telecourse videos available for check out. Contact the Library to see if the video series you need is available for check out. These videos may be checked out for 24 hours. Due to high demand of telecourse videos, late returns will result in the loss of video check out privileges for the rest of the semester. Videos are not renewable.

WestLaw

WestLaw is available for students registered in the Paralegal program. Students must provide their MCC ID to use the WestLaw service.
