  • Provides presentation via the Web 24/7.

Mission Statement

MCC Library Information Literacy Program recognizes our students as individuals, with differences in learning styles, ability levels and cultures.   • Understand basic library and research vocabulary.

  • Understand how knowledge is organized, stored and transmitted.
  • Differentiate between primary and secondary sources.
  • Identify appropriate database.
  • Design search strategies.
  • Refine search using advanced techniques.
  • Locate information using classification systems.
Evaluate and incorporate information
  • Determine relevance, accuracy and significance.
  • Recognize the importance of intended audience.
  • Know when and how to seek advice of instructors, librarians or others.
Use information for a purpose
  • Synthesize information to support a thesis.
  • Organize and communicate that information effectively.
Understand ethical and legal use of information
  • Understand plagiarism and fair use.
  • Cite resources (traditional or electronic; MLA or APA).
