About DRC

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is the focal point for information and services to disabled individuals at Manatee Community College (MCC). The Disability Resource Center is committed to ensuring the access of disabled individuals to all programs, services, and activities of the College, and to promoting the personal, educational, and vocational success of disabled individuals.

MCC is committed to the spirit and the letter of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and has instituted various administrative policies, procedures, and practices to provide meaningful access for disabled individuals.

DRC’s Access Services are designed to provide qualified disabled individuals with the necessary auxiliary aids and support staff so that they may enjoy full participation at the college. The provision of certain auxiliary aids and services to college events and activities require a specific request at least two (2) business days prior to the event.

DRC also provides advocacy and support services to disabled individuals to increase their chances of success and to empower them to reach their full potential. The DRC works with a variety of public and private agencies serving disabled populations in order to facilitate the individual’s integration into the main stream of college life. In addition to information, advocacy and coordination services, the DRC offers individualized personal, academic, and vocational guidance and counseling to assist disabled individuals in maximizing their potential and pursuing meaningful occupations based on their unique interests, needs, and abilities.

Through education, empowerment, and self advocacy disabled individuals have proven themselves to be vital, productive, and contributing members of our community. The DRC hopes that the information, recourses, and linkages on these pages will assist disabled persons reach their full potential and will contribute to their full integration.
